Natural history of Bearded Screech-Owl (Megascops barbarus)

Bearded Screech-Owl is endemic to the Atlantic slope highlands of Guatemala and the neighboring Mexican state of Chiapas. We have been studying the distribution in Guatemala, where it is now known from six sites. We documented the first nesting records for the country.

We have been studying the ecology of Bearded Screech-Owl including habitat use, breeding biology, food, and demography. Results are being prepared for publication.
